Nursery Spring Term 2022

Nursery Spring 2022

Our topic this term is Wonderful Wales! Watch out for further information over the next couple of weeks.

Our PE session is a Tuesday morning. From February 1st your child will need to wear school PE kit for this session. They will need black shorts or joggers, a green PE top (available from Sarah Kay’s Embroidery) and black pumps.

Please make sure each item has their name in it. Kits must be left in school as children will change before the session starts.

Here are some of the activities we have been doing in Nursery this week.

On Monday 10th January we wrapped up warm and went welly walking! We had a wonderful time and what a treat to have hot chocolate to warm us up.

On Friday 14th we went outside and built a castle.

On January 25th we celebrated Dydd Santes Dwynwen in Nursery.

Santes Dwynwen is a very special person in Wales, she is the Saint of love.

We had lots of fun learning all about her and we took parts in lots of activities to celebrate this special day.

Chinese New Year!

On Tuesday 1st February it was Chinese New Year in Nursery we had 4 days of celebrating finishing on Friday 4th with a Chinese banquet.

During the week we heard the story of how the Chinese New Year started, we made lanterns, dragon puppets and tiger masks. In our small world we had the 12 animal stick puppets and had races across the ‘river’ to see which animal won. We found out that the rat came first but he had cheated!

We played in our role play area which had been set up as a Chinese Restaurant, we cooked noodles and drank Chinese tea!

We had lots of fun doing the ‘Chopstick Challenge’, we even challenged Mrs Macey and Miss Mira! Using chopsticks, we had to move dry pasta from a plate into a bowl, if we managed that challenge we got to have a go with Maltesers and marshmallows! These went onto our mouth not the cup, it was such fun.

The week starting 28th February has been a very busy time for us in school. Here are some of the activities we have been doing.

On Tuesday 1st March, we celebrated St David’s Day. We dressed up and took part in lots of activities to celebrate David, the Saint of Wales.

Although we were a day late, we didn’t want to miss out on pancakes! We had to pick our favourite filling and we made a pictogram to record the results, chocolate sauce was very popular!

On Thursday 3rd, it was World Book Day, we had lots of fun playing with the story boxes. Some of us dressed up as our favourite book character and some of us brought in something to represent our favourite book.

As part of our Wonderful Wales topic, we have been learning about the Wonders of Wales. This week we looked at Snowdon and we found out that you can walk up to the top or take a train. We decided we would create a mountain in our construction area and build our train track up to the top. It was such fun!

We have come to the end of our Wonderful Wales topic in Nursery, there has been so much to learn and we have been very busy!

We found out about the Seven Wonders of Wales, castles, we wrote letters to the dragons that live in Llangollen , we made a sound story for a dragon hunt, tasted some traditional food and so much more!

Here are photographs of some of  the activities, I think you can tell we had lots of fun!

The dragons wrote back to us, we were so happy!

How exciting!

As part of our PE we read the story of  Rosie’s Walk, we had such fun.
