Today, we started our project ‘How far can we fly?’.
We looked at how animals and insects have different shaped wings, depending on what they use their wings for, e.g. an albatross has long, skinny, strong wings, so it can fly long distances over the sea looking for food, a bee has short, stubby wings because it has to make a lot of short trips and stops from flower to flower, so it hovers.
We then found out how humans have used information gathered from observing animals and insects to help them design items that will help humans. Next, we found out how humans designed wings for aeroplanes and how they keep the plane in the air.
In pairs, we made four paper planes, following instructions on the screen and instructions from clips.
Find out what we have planned for our planes tomorrow!
