Traditional New Year celebration in Wales (Hen Galan) is January 13th. This is the day that the Mari Lwyd would visit houses and children would ask for Calennig. Children carried a charm made from an apple called a ‘Perllan’. They sang a special rhyme and may be rewarded with a treat in recognition of their singing and good wishes. Today in Forest School, we made a Perllan with cloves, greenery and sticks.
